DUKE OF MEDINA SIDONIA TO APOLOGISE FOR ATROCITIES TO JEWISH COMMUNITY

The Duke of Medina Sidonia, Alonso González de Gregorio y Álvarez de Toledo, will present a document at the Instituto Cervantes today at 7pm intended to heal damage done against the Jewish Community.
The historical event will be the first time a Duke from Medina Sidonia officially returns to Gibraltar after over 500 years since the incident first occurred.

The document will be presented to the President of the Sephardi Community of Gibraltar, James Levy, for the atrocities committed during 1474-76 resulting in the expulsion of Jews.

The passing of the act of amendment will go hand in hand with the presentation of a document apologising for the atrocities in Spanish and in Hebrew.

The event will bring closure to many in the Jewish community whose descendants suffered during this period and will surely make a mark on the minds of all who attend.
