This deserves a double post. This article carefully goes through the facts and history of Israel and shows conclusively that there is no illegal occupation by Israel, that it is the Jews that are the indigenous people of Israel, that Abbas's recent bullshit article in the NY Time is an attempt to distort history, he learned well at Moscow University where he got his doctorate in denying Jewish history.
This goes to the core of my argument, supported by Obama's speech in May of this year at State Dept, where he basically admitted that he is tired of Jews and really does not care about the facts, he just wants to be buddies with the muslims and if he has to throw the Jews under the bus, well, much of the world will support him on that. We really have never has a president that has unequivocally just embraced the facts and told the Arabs to go fly a kite. They already have Jordan and unless and until there is a compete cessation of violence and jihad for very long time, there will never be another arab entity in Israel.

My view on abortion is that it should be the woman's right to choose, and it took me a long time to get to that decision because I do believe that life begins at conception and that abortion is murder. How anyone that is even remotely knowledgable about science now could think otherwise is stunning. I hate the extremists on both sides of this issue, but the hypocrisy is more pronounced in the pro-abortion crowd.
The reason I support a woman's right to choose is that I cannot support the policy of having the government so powerful that it can rule over a person's body. I dont think the Constitution supports giving the government powers to control a woman's body. This is the same reason that I support a person right to choose suicide over suffering. For religious reasons, because I am a Jew, I am against suicide and think it is morally wrong, but that is my view and I do not think that, again, on issues associated with a competent person making decisions about their own body, that the government should be involved.

In this article Petraeus makes the stunning admission that after nearly 10 years of war, al qaeda is still in Iraq and Afghanistan, in East Africa and other places. I think we could reasonably state that 10 years of war have not brought us the results we need. It at least raises the question, has the counter insurgency strategy that Gen Petraeus has pursued been the best strategy? Could it be that we should have been pursuing mostly a counter terrorist strategy, albeit in a much more lethal manner than we have been. Over 6000 dead, over 20000 wounded, nearly 10 years and over a trillion dollars and we are still fighting these guys. I support fighting the islamists, but there must be a more effective way to do it. This does not for one second imply that I do not both honor and respect Gen Petraeus and all our military; we forever owe then our gratitude and respect, but something is wrong when in 10 years we cannot kill enough of these bastard islamists to put them on run and in hiding for at least 20 years. Personally, I dont think we have been lethal enough in our attacks. The rules of engagement place too much emphasis on avoiding civilian casualties and not offending folks, when in the end being over there for 10 years and keeping the war going for 10 years probably killed and offended more civilians than if we had been more brutal earlier.

I have always be highly optimistic about the USA because of our Constitution and because we have a nation based on values, not just nationality, like the rest of the world. Israel is of course a Jewish State, but Judaism is based on a covenant, not just religious beliefs, so there really is no nationality of being an Israeli or a Jew. The terrible tragedy of slavery and the Civil War and the heroic efforts in the fight for Civil Rights in the US by black Americans has made the US much stronger. There are no other nations in the world that are nearly as advanced on civil rights as is the US. Israel by embracing civil rights, even for arabs and muslims that openly campaign against it, and by bringing in Jews from all over the planet, gets strenghtened by the development of a common values system. In the US it is the Constitution, is Israel it is the Torah and Talmud and Gemara and, of course, Emuna.
